Our philosophy has always been to start with first class genetics, nurture and grow youngsters in the fresh air and space of the Australian environment, and to handle and educate young horses individually so each one is provided the best start possible to develop its full potential.
We have concentrated on our dam lines, importing performance-bred mares and using frozen semen to produce offspring with pedigrees to rival any in the world. Many of our mares have had successful competition careers and produce the character and determination for their offspring to succeed in sport. Australian conditions contribute to the development of Oaks horses. Our clean air, abundant space and temperate climate are perfect for growing young horses, strengthening muscle and bone, developing strong lungs.
Our Oaks team has come together from bush-riding on stockhorses, thoroughbred training, pony club and elite show jumping – but everyone has that elusive quality of being a horseman.
Horsemanship isn’t learned from a book or a degree – it has to be felt. It is acquired from a range of equine experiences; understanding that small steps are a better foundation than big leaps; learning that trust and willingness are more important than coercion; observing and listening to the horse and learning from its reactions.
Learning, constantly learning. And patience.
Oaks Sport Horses are competing at all levels of show jumping and eventing, from Junior and Young Horses, to Olympic and World Equestrian Games representation; in nearly every state of Australia, and in Europe and in Asia. We are very proud that our horses can help their riders and owners achieve their dreams
